SMG’s Benchmark Database reveals that problems are much more common for guests who use gift cards. In fact, gift card users are twice as likely to experience a problem than guests who don’t use gift cards.

With gift card usage skyrocketing in the months following the holiday season—especially with first-time guests—restaurants need to be sure staff members are thoroughly trained on how to process gift cards. A positive experience will ensure these first-time guests will come back again, even when they don’t have a gift card.
