KANSAS CITY – Kansas City-based Service Management Group (SMG) has added a senior engineering professional to lead its mobile technology development. R. Louis Bellaire, Ph.D. was named Vice President Mobile Technology.
Bellaire joins SMG’s Locately office in Boston from MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, Mass., where he served as leader of an advanced technology group. His 65-person, multi-disciplinary team pioneered novel big data analytics and software systems that significantly improved time critical decision-making.
“Lou’s expertise adds to SMG’s continued growth trajectory, synthesizing knowledge in data science, advanced location analytics, and decision support to benefit our current and future clients. This hire will further accelerate SMG’s and Locately’s efforts to leverage the latest mobile technologies to help clients understand the changing consumer and shopper landscape,” says SMG CEO Andy Fromm.
Fromm says Bellaire will oversee the expansion of SurveyMini, SMG’s location-based consumer research app powered by Locately’s technology. The SurveyMini app is designed to capture in-the-moment consumer feedback and behavioral data that provides ground-breaking insight into the shopper journey. He will also oversee and contribute to SMG’s patent portfolio. SMG’s intellectual property strategy focuses on the intersection of behavioral and survey data.
In 2008, Bellaire earned the Medal for Outstanding Public Service – the highest civilian award presented by the Secretary of Defense – for his role in Operation Burnt Frost, the successful intercept of a rogue U.S. satellite. This same medal has also been awarded to recipients such as Secretaries of State Hilary Rodham Clinton and Richard Armitage for their contributions to the country.
“Lou brings an amazing mix of leadership and technological know-how to the company,” says Locately CEO Thaddeus Fulford-Jones. “He joins us at just the right time as SMG and Locately transform consumer and shopper insights through actionable intelligence across the entire path to purchase.” SMG has already established itself as a leader in driving business results through improved customer loyalty and employee engagement. Its innovative and proprietary data collection, reporting and insight tools allow SMG to collect and evaluate more than 90 million consumer surveys annually in 40 languages for more than 300 brands.Locately is the leader in location analytics and location-targeted mobile surveys. The Locately technology platform processes huge volumes of GPS data from opted-in mobile phones to understand which stores people visit, which travel routes they take, and why. Locately delivers location-based mobile and online surveys to engage with consumers on the path to purchase or after they have visited specified venues of interest: the “next-generation shopper intercept.” Locately’s innovations have been featured in MIT’s Technology Review, Forbes, and Fortune Magazine (CNN Money).
