What is your position at SMG?

My position is Lead Generation Manager in the Marketing department. I’m part of the demand generation team, and our focus is to build and nurture relationships with prospects and current clients to drive new business for SMG. My specific role is managing the systems that automate this process.


Tell us what an average day in the life is like for you.

My days vary quite a bit depending on what kind of communication is going out in any given week. I oversee our Marketing Automation system, so I’m constantly looking at how data is being transferred between our website, automation platform, and CRM. Demand gen reporting is a another function of my role, so I’m always pulling metrics and comparing our performance trends. I also work closely with the Sales, Technology, and Client Insights to make sure each department has the automation tools they need.


What is it like working on your team?

Fast paced with high production volume and constant interaction. I’m always talking to my project managers and marketing team as we bounce ideas off each other. Each person on my team has a specific role and works very hard to keep the machine running.


What do you love most about your job?

I’ve had a tremendous amount of professional growth since starting at SMG. My managers have encouraged me to pursue certifications that have cultivated my technical skills and taught me so much about marketing operations. I regularly hear feedback about how I can raise the bar, which inspires me to think of my own ways to optimize our reporting and operations. There is a new challenge every day and I am never bored!


How does your job contribute to our clients’ success?

Part of my job is to make sure clients get the communication they need in a timely manner. Whenever we put on a webinar, publish a new research study, or host a client event, I make sure our clients know about it. I also monitor which SMG resources are accessed so we can produce more of what our clients find useful.


What would you tell someone interested in joining the SMG team?

Do it! Be prepared for daily challenges and for someone else to be the smartest person in the room. SMG has some really great perks like bringing your dog to work on Fridays, summer hours, and an overabundance of free food, but we all work very hard to get the job done.
